Some people think I bought a jet for comfort and luxury. Those are the same people who spend their weekends off for comfort and luxury while I’m flying around the country closing deals. I’m not wasting time going through TSA, waiting for delayed flights or worrying if or when I can get a flight. I assure you I didn’t spend $20m on 10X Airlines for the comfort.
Those who have read my books and watched my videos know that I don’t make decisions based on what’s comfortable.
What does it mean to take time out of the equation? You want to shorten time. The quicker you can do things the quicker you’ll be able to get ahead of the pack. You need to have a get-it-done-now mentality to get massively successful.
Think about your life and all the good things you have. Don’t you wish every good thing happened sooner? My wife tells me she wishes we would have met sooner. Had we met sooner we would have begun enjoying a great marriage for a longer period of time. I had to persist for 13 months before convincing her to go out with me for our first date, but maybe I could have done more to shrink that down from 13 months to 6 months. Everything good should happen quicker.
I bought my jet to compact time. I can be on the phone with a potential client and I can tell him, “I’ll be there tonight”. I can be in multiple cities in one day that I could never reach in a car or waiting for commercial flights. If I’m not controlling my time, someone else is—get it?
If I have to wait on a commercial flight that means Delta or whoever controls my time—and my money. I want to control everything in my life to control my production. I cannot win if someone else is controlling my time. I can create urgency and beat my competitors by having the ability to move faster. While we all have the same amount of time, the massively successful know how to shorten time.
Time is all we have. If you compact time, you get more of the most valuable resource there is. I’m in a hurry. Urgency is the new virtue. If you want to sell something, it’s better to make the sale now than later. You never want to wait.
Don’t make decisions with comfort as the motivation. Decide on something based on how it can compress time. We all know time is money. Almost every problem people face in their careers and other aspects of their lives—such as failed diets, marriages, and financial problems—are not only the result of not taking enough action but not taking enough action soon enough.
Remember that money and power follow attention, and you need to get people’s attention fast in today’s world. Meerkat was huge a year ago and now they are closing up shop. Things change in a hurry. Fast is the new big.
Perfection is the killer to production. Perfection is basically a symptom of procrastination. Businesses fail first and foremost because their ideas weren’t sold quickly enough and in quantities great enough, and, therefore they ran out of money.
