From starting an online business to manual labour, all ideas (big or small) are encouraged to register, as long as the mastermind behind it is aged between eight to 11.
Run by Reali Learning it is a chance for the next generation to get a kick start in the entrepreneurial game with the opportunity to take home $2000, along with other prizes. And while every generation brings something new to the table, Reali Learning’s Jodie Herbert thinks this is the generation that will impact some big change.
“This is the generation that’s going to improve aged care, this is the generation that’s going to get us to Mars, this is the generation that’s going to solve climate change,” Jodie says.
Performing under pressure is a skill that few are born with and most work hard to get to, but this is a chance for your little creative genius to get some of that experience as they not only pitch their idea but answer questions from a panel.
“We’ve watched our students just blossom when they come into the program. It takes them a few weeks to find their feet because it is based around performance,” says Jodie.
“They’ve got to learn to think really effectively and efficiently to perform the tasks. We’re hoping that this exposure will help kids to perform better under pressure as they get older.”
And parents can rejoice—Minipreneurs Shark Tank is run entirely online, meaning your child can partake from the comfort of home (and you won’t need to play taxi).
But just because it’s run online, it doesn’t mean they won’t get to interact with some other peers their age, bounce ideas around and—like the real world—learn to navigate all the personalities that get put into one Zoom call.
“We’ll be teaching kids about healthy competition, teaching them or helping them improve their social skills, so that they learn to collaborate and speak up about their ideas within groups, and to appreciate the input from other people,” Jodie says.
Canberra’s registration is open now, with each state joining in the months to come, all in the build up to the finals next year in June.
