Two partners left Milwaukee real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield|The Boerke Co. this month under separate moves, with one looking for more personal time and another opting to help a Chicago firm grow its Wisconsin presence.
Andrew Jensen, who had been with Boerke since 1986, said he recently turned 60 and stepped down to have more personal time. He continues working as a broker part-time and representing office tenants through his AJ Associates firm.
“I’ve always liked and have over the last 30 years or so represented office tenants, and will continue to do that,” Jensen said Monday.
Separately, Kristian Sydow has become senior director for Chicago real estate brokerage Greenstone Partners, according to a Thursday press release. Sydow worked in retail leasing in the Milwaukee area with Boerke, and in recent years did listing work for office and other commercial and industrial buildings in the region. Sydow will oversee Greenstone Partners’ expansion in the Wisconsin market to list more properties for sale.
“It’s rare to find a growing company that has a value system so closely aligned with those of your own, and I’m excited to learn and help grow this fast-growing brokerage in a highly competitive marketplace,” Sydow is quoted in the Thursday announcement of his move.
Boerke Co. in Milwaukee has 53 employees, including many with brokerage licenses, said managing partner Kevin Riordan. He said there are about a dozen partners with an ownership stake in the firm. As more approach retirement age, plans are in place to elevate other team members into ownership roles, he said.
“We’ve got a number of people who are on the partnership track, and we’ll be adding some more in the near future,” Riordan said.
That coincides with growth at Boerke over the years, he said.
“It used to be a small firm, and it’s getting to the point where it is no longer a small firm,” Riordan said.
Jensen was a managing partner for Boerke in Milwaukee until 2016, when Riordan stepped into the role. Jensen more recently focused on brokerage and representing office tenants seeking space.
Sydow joined Boerke in 2012 after working with Grubb & Ellis/Apex Commercial Inc. in Milwaukee. Sydow’s transactions at Boerke included listing the former Buca di Beppo restaurant and surrounding properties at North Van Buren Street and East Juneau Avenue. The 251-unit Nova apartments are under construction there now.
