The School District of Osceola County is seeking a commercial real estate broker to help buy and sell properties as needed.
Osceola County Schools has put out a bid process to find a broker since the school’s current Real Estate Broker Services agreement is set to expire in December 2022, district spokeswoman Dana Schafer told Orlando Business Journal.
“Most of our school sites are acquired during the approval process of planned residential developments with the local county and municipalities,” Schafer said. “The real estate broker will assist with the acquisition of educational and ancillary sites that are not within planned residential developments, as the need arises.”
The broker also would help with the sale of district properties as needed, but no sites currently are up for sale other than two the district is under contract to sell.
The closing date for bids is Oct. 4, and the district expects to have a top-ranked firm by November.
Osceola County has continued to grow, drawing demand for more infrastructure like schools.
The county has 388,656 residents as of the 2020 Census, compared with 268,685 in 2010, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. It was one of the top 10 counties in the U.S. for percentage growth of population between 2010-2019, growing by 39.8% during that time.
Other local school districts also have listed properties for sale in recent months. For instance, Orange County Public Schools facilities spokeswoman Lauren Roth told Orlando Business Journal the school district was selling an 81-acre at 3120 Carmona Road in Apopka because it was a surplus property.
The district also has put other surplus properties on the market that it will not use for school construction or other types of development.
