Fall semester has kicked off at Ivy Tech Community College and exciting things are happening. First, Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington is hosting a 20th Anniversary Open House from 2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 15. The public is invited to attend to explore campus grounds, discover the more than 70 academic programs offered, and learn about employer and scholarship partners. Guided tours will be offered to guests at 2:30, 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.
Ivy Tech Bloomington opened its doors to students in August 2002 with just 2,600 students. Today, the campus serves nearly 10,000 students annually. Ivy Tech Bloomington has an eight-county service area, including Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Morgan, Monroe, and Orange counties. You may RSVP to attend the open house and reserve a tour spot at ivytech.edu/bloomington/anniversary. RSVPs are not required to attend. Refreshments will be provided by Ivy Tech’s top-rated hospitality/culinary arts program, along with entertainment provided by local musicians.
Small businesses should participate as the open house will be a great opportunity to learn about internships, career fairs and how to connect with future employees. It also is a great way to meet our faculty who connect with students each day while they pursue higher education. Many Ivy Tech Bloomington students study business administration and liberal arts/general studies in order to transfer to earn their bachelor’s, in addition to health sciences, nursing, automotive technology, I.T., and other structured academic programs linked directly to industry certifications that qualify graduates for work.

As for the Gayle & Bill Cook Center for Entrepreneurship and Indiana Small Business Development Center, we’re busy working with Ivy Tech students in the RISE Applied Entrepreneurship Program who are working on their business ideas as they pursue their associate degrees. It is an exciting time for the Cook Center to help create more small businesses that support the economy in our region. We not only work with students, but we also provide free, confidential one-on-one assistance to people looking to start a business. If we can assist you or someone you know, call us at 812-330-6261 or check out the website at ivytech.edu/bloomington/entrepreneurship.
