I don't care if shoes are ugly. If they're comfortable, wear them everywhere. And I'm speaking from experience. I have a pair of shoes I consider pretty unattractive, but they are also my most comfortable pair.
I have a similar attitude about clothing. Unless I'm going somewhere formal or semi-formal, I may not iron. For one thing, I hate ironing. And my stance is, "It's clean, okay?" No, I'm not wearing anything that looks like it's been wadded up, but you know what I mean.
However, no amount of ironing, pulling, prodding, or throwing against the wall will make Crocs comfortable. I do not like them. I have tried. And I see them everywhere, so I know folks swear by them. But I'm not one of them. Plus, they make my feet sweaty, which is gross.
And yes, they are ugly, but I've already explained that doesn't matter.
And it doesn't matter to other Kentuckians with whom I am in disagreement. It seems residents of the Commonwealth have chosen Crocs as their favorite fashion trend, according to a survey from StyleSeat.com.
And Kentuckians are clearly not alone. Our neighbors to the south are also big fans and so are a lot of people who live out west–and that would work; extremely low humidity means less foot sweat.
But are neighbors to the north are into UGGs and Birkenstocks. Again, this is all about COMFORT. Those two brands have seldom been accused of being attractive to the eye, but they get raves from everyone I've ever known who's owned them…especially Birkenstocks.
Who knows? Maybe I should wear socks with the Crocs. This guy does and raves about them.
All I know is that Kentucky summers get pretty hot. (Thankfully, as I write this we are enjoying the first day of fall and have put all that nonsense behind us.) And that's when Crocs are out in force.
By the way, here's how StyleSeat.com conducted its survey.
For me, that pretty much explains everything. Millennials were the majority age group. I'm Gen X and we comprised only 23% of the respondents. And I was not one of them.
And maybe you just can't go by me. I can't wear flip-flops, either; I hate anything between my toes.
No, I'll just keep wearing my super-comfy Skechers, old as they are. They don't go with anything, but they've never let me down.
