AVON, Ohio — With the 2022 baseball season over, the Lake Erie Crushers are already looking ahead to 2023.
Team officials recently announced that Cam Roth, director of baseball operations, will not return to the team in 2023. The search for a new director/field manager will begin immediately.
“The Crushers want to thank Cam for all of his hard work to make the 2022 season exciting, right until the final weekend,” Tom Kramig, Crushers co-owner, said in a press release. “We believe Cam is an outstanding manager and we wish him nothing but success in his future endeavors.”
Roth had rejoined the organization in 2022 after spending the 2021 season with the Gateway Grizzlies. Roth also managed the Crushers from 2016 through 2019 before leaving to accept a position with the Detroit Tigers organization.
During Roth’s tenure, the Crushers went 246-237. He led the team to the Eastern Division title in 2019 and was named Frontier League Manager of the Year.
The COVID-19 pandemic shortened his time with the Tigers organization, and he returned to the Frontier League in 2021.
AVON
Tree trimming: Over the next several weeks, Avon Street Department employees will be out trimming trees in the rights-of-way. Residents who wish to avoid having the Service Department trim their trees need to make sure the lowest branch does not come within 9 feet of the ground where branches overhang any public sidewalk, public place or public street.
Any branches nearing the street should be 11 feet high from the road, to give school buses, garbage trucks, plow trucks and other large service trucks enough clearance.
If you have additional questions, contact the Avon Service Department at 440-937-5729.
Sunflower field: A sign is now posted announcing the future home for the new Maria’s Field of Hope in Avon.

According to information posted on the Prayers From Maria website, a transitional field location is going to be used in the interim while the new site is prepped. Foundation officials are not saying anything about the exact location of the transitional field, although information online notes that the field covers 23 acres and 460,000 seeds were planted.
Foundation officials have asked the public to follow on social media and their website for any announcements on that field as they become available.
The sunflowers are expected to bloom at the end of September or early October. For additional field updates, go to prayersfrommaria.org or follow on Facebook.
