Is it a cry for help or drug dealers staring in the face of recklessness and just not caring about the community around them?
The number of drugs being peddled into our Ocean County community, the Jersey Shore, and the state of New Jersey for years now has been mind-numbing.
In many ways, we've seen stiffer penalties, expansive investigative efforts by law enforcement, legislation, and more in recent years to curb what is a massive problem in our society.
We all have a part to play in ending this drug epidemic, even if it's just awareness, education, and compassion in helping people find recovery.
The fact that heroin, fentanyl, meth, and cocaine are still circulating is very concerning.
There is still much work to be done.
One reason why circulated this week with the arrest of a Lakewood Township man who was storing drugs at two homes and peddling them out across Ocean County.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced that the arrest of 21-year-old Davewon Crockam of Lakewood was the result of a multi-law enforcement agency investigation as a result of heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine being distributed in Ocean County.
Detectives executed a search warrant at Crockam's house. They got consent to search his neighbors as well, when they learned he was allegedly storing drugs there as well, and said that they found a combined amount of "approximately 2,750 wax folds of heroin/fentanyl, 18 grams of cocaine, a loaded 45 caliber handgun with a laser sight and a drum-style extended magazine, drug paraphernalia, and approximately $8,100 in United States currency."
Following his arrest for allegedly storing and dealing a massive amount of drugs and being in possession of a gun, Prosecutor Billhimer said that Crockam has been charged with Possession of more than One-Half Ounce but less than Five Ounces of Heroin with Intent to Distribute, Possession of more than One-Half Ounce but less than Five Ounces of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Certain Person Not to Possess a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon During a Controlled Dangerous Substance Offense, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon or Device – specifically a High Capacity Magazine, and Financial Facilitation of Criminal Activity.
Crockam remains in the Ocean County Jail, pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutor Billhimer said that this investigation was jointly conducted by "the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Asset Forfeiture Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department Patrol Division, Lakewood Township Police Department Street Crimes Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department Special Response Unit, and Lakewood Township Police Department K-9 Unit."
