What does it take to build a brand new first-of-its-kind state-of-the-art off-road trophy truck? It takes a pile of cash, unbelievable resources, absolute passion, and heaps of revolutionary off-road future tech. And maybe perhaps owning a part of the legendary LA Dodgers Franchise might help put all that together. Jimco just revealed their first all-wheel-drive trophy truck in a marvelous fashion at the historic LA Dodger stadium. Fastball Racing commissioned this new Bobby Patton Trophy Truck built by Jimco Racing Inc. for the Dodgers owner.
In the official release from Jimco, they present some of Bobby Patton’s vision and concepts that inspired this project. “We reveal this amazing build at the legendary Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, California named “Blue Heaven on Earth” by baseball legend Tommy Lasorda as a nod to the owner and connection to the 7x World Series champions The LA Dodgers.”
Designed and constructed as an all-wheel-drive unlimited desert racing vehicle, Jimco implemented all of the latest equipment in this new build. The AWD component is a first for the well-established off-road racing vehicle constructor and features a from-the-ground-up design. Many top racers are now utilizing all-wheel-drive platforms and benefit from the rapid acceleration of four-wheeled traction. Jimco has dubbed the Bobby Patton Trophy Truck Chassis #001 as the “Dragon”.
Jimco was also responsible for Patton’s last trophy truck program. Originally debuting in 2019, Fastball Racing, with Bobby and Jimco owner, Robbie Pierce teaming up, they had many memorable racing adventures in SCORE-international events. For an even bigger adventure, Patton and Pierce both competed in the 2020 Dakar Rally that took place in Saudi Arabia.

Under the watchful eye of Jimco’s Lead Designer and long-time off-road racer Barry Karakas, Jimco constructed a front-engine chassis design with a wheelbase of 125-inch and a track width of 93-inch. This specifically engineered CAD-verified platform layout maximizes stability and steamrolls horsepower to the ground through unrivaled AWD acceleration.
Like any modern trophy truck should, the Dragon is powered by a massive Dougans Racing Engines custom 555 cubic inch big block 8 stack V8 engine package pushing out 1050 horsepower with 850 ft-lbs of torque. Piping that power to the ground is a perfectly matched Xtrac 5-speed wide cluster sequential transmission with an integral transfer case. Downrange is an Xtrac Spool Type CTR Torque Split differential in the front with a heavy-duty Gearworks differential in the rear ID Designs housing. Up front, the traction is unloaded through ID Designs portal hubs.

Modern off-road racing calls for modern components. Using the latest and greatest 40-inch BFGoodrich KR3 Tires wrapped around 18-inch Trail Ready Beadlock Race Wheels, they can fit a huge 6 Piston Brembo Race Braking System. All of that mass is moving 24-inches of travel in the front and 32-inches of travel in the rear.

Jimco worked with FiberwerX Fiberglass Products to produce a very special 2022 Ford Raptor custom body panel system. This design is specific to Jimco Dragon. Our friend, Jason McNeil from FiberwerX shared “We would like to thank Jimco for trusting us to design and build their new Gen 3 Raptor body for their all-new “Dragon” AWD TT for Racer and Owner of the LA Dodgers, Bobby Patton! This body turned out awesome and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome!

Jimco owns a rich history of off-road racing performance. It seems as if they poured into this project all of what they have learned over the decades, and it has manifested itself as the Dragon.
