NEW DELHI: Delhi Management Association (DMA), in association with DTU-DCE Fraternity Forum organised a “Atmanirbhar Bharat – National Entrepreneurship Summit” and “Entrepreneurship Awards Ceremony” on Saturday. The chief guest on the occasion was Rajesh Aggarwal, secretary, ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship, Government of India.
This day-long summit was attended by large number of DTU students, alumni and faculty members of forum, management professionals, members of DMA and entrepreneurs.
Aggarwal informed the participants of existing government policies on skill development, future planning and perspective on entrepreneurship in line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He said that need of the hour is to create an entrepreneurship ecosystem at the grass-root level for holistic development of the country.
In the opening address of the summit Dr Navneet Kumar Sharma, founder and president, DTU-DCE Fraternity Forum and vice president, DMA elaborated on the vision behind Atmanirbhar Bharat. According to Sharma, in today’s times, fast changing technologies are disrupting the way traditional business are carried out and thus providing opportunities for innovations in businesses. The various policy initiatives taken by the Centre have resulted in quantum jump in India’s ranking in “ease of doing business” and substantial growth of start-ups in India. Indian start-ups are growing to become unicorns and have recently crossed a century of unicorns.
Sharma added that entrepreneurship, startups and innovation go hand-in-hand. Indian startups are changing the rules of the game. These startups are going to be the backbone of new India. He appealed to the young engineers to innovate for India and innovate from India. He wishes to see the young engineers as entrepreneurs, thus becoming “job providers” rather than “job seekers”.
Lauding the efforts of entrepreneurs in nation building, Yogesh Misra, president DMA, spoke about the success of Indian startups. He mentioned that the year 2021, 2020, and 2019 saw birth of the maximum number of Indian unicorns with 44, 11, and 7 unicorns coming each year, respectively.
The inaugural session was followed by a panel discussion with Varun Alagh and, Ghazal Alagh, co-founders of Mamaearth, Praveen Sinha, managing director of PinCap & co-founder of Jabong, Rohit Chadda, group chief strategy officer, Network 18 Media and Investments and co-founder Foodpanda, Kunal Vaid, co-founder and CEO of Resham Sutra and Aakash Sinha, founder and CEO of Omnipresent Robot Technologies. These successful entrepreneurs on the panel shared the experiences of their entrepreneurship journey. Anupam Jalote, CEO, iCreate, moderated the session.
The panel discussion was followed by the interaction of members of the Forum and DMA with the panelists.
In the “Entrepreneurship Awards Ceremony”, Ghazal Alagh was given “Women Entrepreneur of the Year Award” while “Incubator of the Year Award” was awarded to Anupam Jalote. Kunal Vaid was given “Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award” and Aakash Sinha was awarded “Deep Tech Entrepreneur of the year Award.”
