The sick and weakened dolphin calf was drowning in a tidal pool on Thailand’s shore when fishermen found him. Conservationists advised the fishermen how to provide emergency care until the calf could receive veterinary attention at a marine research center. The baby was nicknamed Paradon, or “brotherly burden,” because those involved knew saving his life would be no easy task. The Irrawaddy dolphin native to shallow Asian waters is considered a vulnerable species because of habitat loss, pollution and illegal fishing. Paradon has had a month of round-the-clock care with staff and volunteers to hold him up in the water, clean his tank and provide him milk. He’s still weak but seems to be on the road to recovery.

Yankees reliever Lou Trivino got a tap on his shoulder as he warmed up in the bullpen alerting him he had on the wrong jersey: the No. 50 belonging to Jameson Taillon instead of his own 56. Trivino pulled off his sweatshirt to throw his pitches and the problem became clear. He began to warm in case he was needed to replace Wandy Peralta, who surrendered an RBI single to pinch-hitter Dermis García but finished the 2-hour, 50-minute game for his third save as New York beat the Oakland Athletics 3-2.
Jeremy Clements won a crash-filled Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway early Saturday for his second career victory and first since 2017. This one came after two multicar melees in overtime and gave him an automatic berth in the postseason. Clements passed sluggish Austin Hill on the final restart thanks to a big push from Sage Karam and cruised to the checkered flag.

Atlanta Braves reliever Jackson Stephens was hit in the side of the head by a line drive Friday night and was headed to a hospital for tests. Stephens walked off the field in the ninth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals and appeared to be unhurt. With one out and runners on second and third, Brendan Donovan blistered a line drive that struck Stephens in the right temple. The ball ricocheted into shallow right field for an RBI single. Stephens never went down, but was immediately checked by the Atlanta training staff. After a moment, he walked off the field under his own power to loud applause at Busch Stadium. Tyler Matzek replaced Stephens and got the final two outs. The Braves won 11-4.

OAKLAND, Calif. — Aaron Judge is back on track. The New York Yankees slugger, who snapped a nine-game homer drought earlier this week, hit his third home run in the last four games Friday night as the Bombers beat the A’s 3-2 at the Coliseum.
Spencer Strider pitched six strong innings and William Contreras hit a three-run double as the streaking Atlanta Braves defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 11-4. Atlanta has won four straight, seven of eight and 15 of its last 17 games. The defending World Series champions remained two games behind the NL East-leading New York Mets. St. Louis has lost three of five but still holds a six-game lead in the NL Central over Milwaukee. Strider scattered six hits and struck out seven — including his first five outs. The rookie allowed one run and issued one walk. Contreras had his first career four-hit game.
