Always fancied living like a royal? A 17th century castle, linked to Mary Queen of Scots, is up for sale for £625,000 – less than the average London home.
Powrie Castle is a three bedroom property bursting with incredibly preserved Mediaeval and Renaissance features and has actual real-life turrets so you can live out all your regal dreams.
At the heart of the historic building is an impressive 325 sq ft drawing room, which features a high vaulted ceiling and is arranged around an imposing stone hearth.
Wannabe buyers would be able to entertain guests in the grand dining room with flagstone flooring, an inglenook fireplace and an oak-beamed ceiling.
Other covetable regal-style features include leaded glass windows with shutters and some finely crafted stonework.
The castle also comes with its own monument in the grounds, The Keep, which dates back to the 16th century, a perfect gathering spot for summer parties.

The property’s origins can be traced back more than 850 years, with the impressive building undergoing three decades of renovation to turn it into an Insta-worthy family abode.
The conversion of Powrie Castle into a home even won the Dundee Civic Trust Award, with the current owners having continued to restore and upgrade the building over the past 33 years, creating a welcoming historic home with all the mod cons for 21st century living.
On sale for £625,000, the unique property is available from Thorntons, who describe the unusual listing as “enchanting and beautifully restored” inviting wannabe owners to “become part of history”.
“Powrie Castle is a rare opportunity to own a beautifully renovated castle, with links to some of Scotland’s noted royal figures and significant historic events,” says property manager David Fletcher.
Situated just a few miles from Dundee, the castle can be traced back to 1172, when King William the Lion gifted the land to Robert Ogilvie, the Earl of Angus.
It remained with that family until it was acquired by Thomas Fotheringham in 1412.
Later the castle was passed down the family and at one point, in 1547, it was used as a base for attacks during a siege before later being restored by an heir.
Letters show the family’s correspondence with key royal figures including Mary Queen of Scots.

“Despite its grand connections, it is a remarkably comfortable and enchanting home that offers great flexibility,” Fletcher adds.
“The Tower and Turret rooms could be converted into two further bedrooms, which would be especially suitable for children, and its large formal dining and drawing rooms are the perfect spaces for entertaining.
“Just three miles to Dundee, which has excellent road, rail and air links, and close to world-classing golfing at St Andrews and Carnoustie, Powrie Castle is sure to attract interest from a wide range of buyers.”
The castle isn’t the only unique property to have hit the market recently.
Last year, the famous ‘Curvy Seashell house’ from the Channel 4 series of Grand Designs went on the market for the first time since it appeared on the show in 2005.
The unique four-bed home home, which was up for sale for £1.45 million, received a lot of attention at the time thanks to its pale pink curving walls (hence the house’s name) and corkscrew staircase tower.
The unusual property was built by Pat Becker in the garden of her home in Shaldon, Devon, and taking inspiration from its seafront location, was designed to look shell-like in its appearance.

Meanwhile an incredible eco-home, cleverly designed to disappear into the landscape, also hit the market and was available to buy at £895,000.
With its extensive use of renewable technology and eco-friendly features, the unique three-bedroom family home attracted attention from those seeking a more environmentally-conscious way of living.
Set in a beautiful rural location, the property offered a dream option for those hankering after moving to the country to switch to a simpler way of life.

Florida federal judge Aileen Cannon on Thursday rejected a request from the special master she appointed to review documents seized from former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate to have Trump's legal team verify that the government's inventory log of seized items is accurate. Judge Cannon's ruling again hands yet another process win to Trump's legal team, which will now no longer face the same deadline to state on the record whether they would dispute any of the items listed on the government's detailed inventory. Trump's legal team earlier this week filed a letter under seal raising their objection to the request from special master Raymond Dearie — even as Trump repeatedly in public statements and interviews has made baseless suggestions the FBI "planted" documents in order to incriminate him.
